Leadership support for NZ based Not For Profits, educational institutions and businesses; building resilient leaders.

My Story

Born and raised in Auckland I met my wife Helen at Auckland University in 1980. Together we enjoy three adult sons, a daughter in law and two grandsons.

I have Masters degrees in Science and Theological Studies and hold qualifications in coaching, spiritual direction, supervision and formerly SCUBA instruction!

Twenty years of my life have been focused on Christian ministry including ten years as General Secretary of Tertiary Students Christian Fellowship (1991 to 2001).

A similar period of time has been spent in secondary education concluding with nine years at Selwyn College as Deputy Principal (2008 to 2017).

Resiliency was launched in 2017 as Resilient Leadership. Since then I have met one on one with leaders (young and old) over one thousand times, conducted a dozen CEO reviews and numerous other projects.

My Modus Operandi

Developing leaders - young and old

Emeritus Professor Peter Lineham, Religious Historian, Massey University, described Andrew’s leadership of TSCF as, ‘a service marked by great passion and purpose which had a huge effect on many of the students in the movement.

Transforming organisations

“Andrew’s outstanding educational leadership has been pivotal to the transformation of Selwyn College. He knows how to effect dynamic change and take people with him.” Sheryll Ofner, Principal, Selwyn College.

Helping others be the best they can be

“Andrew has a wonderful ability to see the best in people, and to be able, via gentle encouragement and incisive questioning to assist them to flourish even more.” Graham Burt, Executive Director Festival One, Laidlaw Foundation Chair.

My Approach

With twenty years senior leadership experience in people facing roles I can help you grow towards being the best you can be. I am trained coach, supervisor and spiritual director. My work experience enables me to conduct CEO reviews, reconciliation meetings and strategic planning.

I excel meeting others one on one to talk over work goals, work place relationships, life and faith; offering encouragement to people in the workplace, on the mission field and for their personal and spiritual development. An excellent listener, I ask probing questions, work alongside you to solve problems and assist you to find a path forward. I’m also also adept in working with small or large groups.

Some Consultation Options …

CEO or Board Review

An independent review conducted by Resiliency with optional modules such as CEO coaching. The review is typically organised between the CEO, board chair and consultant and paid for by the organisation. The review usually takes between 20 to 30 hours depending on the organisational size and the number of extra modules included. Best practice entails an externally led CEO review every three to five years.

Recent Strategic projects

  • Comprehensive review of the Wilberforce Scholarship Programme
  • Coaching training for the Scripture Union senior leadership team
  • Survey of Maxim ‘Flint and Steel’ recipients to inform future direction

What others are saying

Andrew has a wonderful ability to see the best in people, and to be able, via gentle encouragement and incisive questioning to assist them to flourish even more. His background as an educationalist and leader of large organisations provides him with a wealth of practical experience and I suspect has resulted in his ‘down to earth’ approach that is so refreshing.”

Graham Burt

Executive Director Festival One, Chair Laidlaw College Foundation, Former Chair Laidlaw College

“I found Andrew’s collaborative approach to the Board/Chair review insightful in identifying areas that needed addressing that I was not aware of. It was a very positive experience for both myself and the Board.”

Vaughan Darby

former Chair, Kingsway Trust

“Andrew is a skilled spiritual director who can competently accompany people at all different stages of their spiritual journey. He provides a safe space for reflection and openness and for helping a directee recognise where God’s Spirit is present in their lives.”

Jeannie Cochrane

Spiritual director and Supervisor
